A relaxed, modern Paint Nite class where participants create expressive abstract portraits using a soft neutral palette — think ivory, sand, taupe, charcoal, clay, mocha, and muted black accents. The focus is on emotion, shape, texture, and simplicity rather than realism. In this guided workshop, guests will explore abstract portrait painting using layered brushwork, loose facial features, and minimalist composition. Participants will learn how to: Build an abstract face using geometric and organic shapes Work with a cohesive neutral color palette Add depth with contrast, texture, and line work Create expressive mood through minimal detail Use palette knives, dry brushing, and blending techniques No painting experience needed - the style is forgiving, modern, and highly personal. PLEASE NOTE: This session is designed for beginner to intermediate painters, and the pace will be relaxed and easy to follow. We’ll be working on 12" x 16" canvas panels rather than stretched canvases. Canvas panels offer a smoother painting surface and make brush control easier, especially for newer artists. Participants with more painting experience are welcome to request a larger 16" x 20" canvas at no additional charge - it’s included with your ticket. Food and beverages will be available for purchase separately.

Questions about what to expect, what’s included, and how it all works.
Yes. Abstract Self-Portrait in Neutrals is designed to be achievable at any experience level. More satisfying than it looks difficult — ArtLab breaks every step down clearly. Most of our guests have never picked up a brush before, and they leave with something they're genuinely proud of. Worth knowing: Paint Nite events happen at real bars and restaurants, not studios — it's a night out that happens to involve painting.
A painting class teaches you technique. Paint Nite gives you a finished painting and a good night. ArtLab is a real local artist — not a teacher running a curriculum — and this event happens at ArtLabMTL Studio & Café, a real local spot, not a studio. Paint Nite invented this format in 2012 and has sold more than 10 million tickets. The trade-off is honest: lighting varies, it can get loud, and the person at the next easel is a stranger. That's the point. It's more of a night out than a class.
ArtLab is a real local artist based in Pierrefonds - Roxboro — not a franchise employee or a corporate hire. Paint Nite artists complete our certification program before their first event. Across all Paint Nite events, 93% of guests say their instructor was amazing. Heather B. said: 'The teacher was amazing. Great atmosphere. Beautiful project. I learned some new techniques!'
ArtLabMTL Studio & Café is a local venue in Pierrefonds - Roxboro — a real local spot, not a dedicated painting studio. Paint Nite events happen at places like this by design — venues with character, regulars, and a bar. It can get lively. That's what makes it a night out rather than a class.
Yes — we have 6 upcoming events in Pierrefonds - Roxboro this month. You can view them here.
Yaymaker is Paint Nite. We brought both brands together under the Paint Nite name — same artists, same events, same format we invented in 2012. More than 10 million tickets have been sold across both brands combined. If you used to attend Yaymaker events in Pierrefonds - Roxboro, you're in the right place. Welcome back.
Your ticket to Abstract Self-Portrait in Neutrals includes the canvas, all the paint you'll need, the use of brushes and an apron during the event, and step-by-step instruction from ArtLab. Drinks and food are ordered separately from ArtLabMTL Studio & Café — you pay the venue directly for anything you eat or drink.
This event runs approximately 2 hours. Doors open at 2:00 PM — we recommend arriving 15 minutes early to get settled and order your first drink before ArtLab starts the painting.
You can reschedule your ticket to any other Paint Nite event up to 24 hours before this one starts. After that, tickets are locked — no refunds or changes. If Paint Nite cancels this event for any reason, you'll receive a full automatic refund.
