Shelly Lang

I am an artist and designer and my mission in life is to create beauty, dynamism and wonder. My grandmother was an artist and she painted landscapes from our New Mexico home similar to those of Georgia O'Keeffe, though ever so slightly less famous. I grew up under the expansive skies of the American Southwest where the colors are subtle and have the unexpected power of utter amazement and awe. I studied art history and fashion because I was fascinated and enlivened by how these mediums are a reflection of the culture in which they were created and all the dynamics there in. When experiencing art from any culture or time period I am moved by the common thread of the human experience and how art enriches our views of ourselves and our world. Now I design for fashion in the contemporary market and I create many of my own textiles. When I have time I paint and my favorite subject is the human figure. Some of my favorite artists are Vincent Van Gogh, James Wyeth and Wayne Thiebaud. I love to inspire others to trust their instincts, enjoy and relax while expressing something new in paint.
