Canadian Icehouse is in a great location right across from Rogers Place in the Ice District, and the atmosphere is where this place really stands out. The restaurant absolutely leans into the Edmonton hockey theme. Between the goalie masks on the walls, the massive seating capacity, and the overall energy of the space, it feels made for game nights and big groups. The ice bar is a fun touch, and the whole place definitely makes an impression. That said, I felt like the restaurant relies more on the look and experience than the food itself. The food was underwhelming. The wings, especially at around $20 for eight, should have been much better. They were described as chargrilled, but there really was not much grilled flavor there. The rest of the food we had was also pretty average and did not live up to the setting. The service was good. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and did her job well, so no complaints there. Overall, this feels like a better spot for drinks and a casual pre game hangout than for a meal you are genuinely excited about. If you are going with a big group for beers before the game, it works. If you are expecting the food to match the atmosphere, it may fall short. Three stars.
This was my first time at this location. The atmosphere inside was great, the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The steak bites were perfectly cooked and delicious. The dirty fries were fairly tasty, I did expect a better cheese sauce though. The dry ribs were overdone but still edible. Parking is difficult. The transient people outside the front door were a bit off putting, unfortunately that is the neighborhood and they have no control over that. I will definitely return in the future and would recommend this as a great place for dinners and events!
I'm very disappointed, took the family including kids for dinner after Monster Jam. We arrived at 8pm, at 8:30pm we still hadn't ordered drinks or food, so we asked one of the other servers to contact our server for us, after another 10 minutes, no one came. We flagged down what ended up being the manager, he left.. then returned to take our order himself. We kept in mind that it was a bit busy, but there were many tables open. We then had a new server come to our table, who had no clue where anything was going, nor what we had ordered, the drink order came out wrong, we were understanding, and our food came out quickly, that was the peak of the experience. Because we were waiting so long for everything and with so much confusion, over and over, we were approached twice while eating, asking for ID for the minors at our table as it was just about 9pm. We had asked for service so we could get boxes for our food and the bills. And we were rushed out. We needed 3 bills but the server had no idea where anything was, and I had to clarify multiple times my order.. 3 items. Paying 3 bills took 20 minutes. There was zero accountability. Terrible experience, ignored, harassed, and paid full price when I was rushed out. The one star was for the food. Kitchen staff are on point! You guys did amazing.
