I came here to watch the Spain vs. France match, and while the atmosphere was good, I think there's one major area that needs improvement: the TVs. Many people choose sports pubs specifically to watch live games, so having modern, high quality televisions should be a priority. Unfortunately, several of the TVs are outdated. On the second floor near the pool table, one TV was about 15 seconds behind the live broadcast, while another had a damaged screen with large black spots that made it difficult to watch the game. I also noticed that from many seating areas, it's hard to see a TV comfortably. Better placement, more screens throughout the pub, and larger, newer TVs would make a huge difference to the overall experience. Right now, some seats are less desirable simply because there's no good view of a screen. Investing in updated televisions would greatly improve the customer experience, especially during major sporting events. I believe it would attract more customers and encourage people to stay longer. I hope the management takes this feedback into consideration because this pub has a lot of potential.
We visited this pub two Saturdays in a row to watch Club World Cup matches, and the difference between our two experiences was unbelievable. On our first visit, we were seated upstairs, and everything was excellent. The service was attentive, friendly, and efficient, which is exactly why we decided to come back the following weekend to celebrate my husband’s birthday with a group of 10 people. This time, we were seated downstairs on the left side near the entrance, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Toronto. I made our reservation well in advance, and we arrived 30 minutes before kickoff. Despite being there early, nobody took our order until halftime. We waited over an hour before anyone even came to take our food and drink order. When our server finally showed up, instead of apologizing for the wait or greeting us politely, the first thing she said was: “Just so you know, I’m very busy, so I can’t do separate bills. Everything will be on one bill, okay?” There was no courtesy, no apology, and no option. Just an unnecessarily rude attitude from the very beginning. The poor service only got worse. The food eventually arrived, but our drinks took forever, and after bringing the first round, our server essentially disappeared. She walked past our table several times without acknowledging us, even when we were trying to get her attention. After waiting around 30 minutes for another drink, one of our friends finally had to get up and find her just so we could order a second round. Three different people asked for a jug of water throughout the evening. It never arrived. Once we finished eating, our dirty plates and empty glasses sat on the table for the rest of the night. With 10 people sharing one table, it became crowded and uncomfortable because nothing was ever cleared away. Then came the biggest surprise. Only when the bill arrived did we find out that an automatic 18% gratuity had been added. I have absolutely no problem with restaurants charging automatic gratuity for large groups—but that should be communicated when the reservation is made or at least before taking the order, not after the meal when you’re already paying. What made this especially frustrating was that our group spent well over $1,000, yet the service didn’t come close to justifying an 18% mandatory gratuity. We weren’t asking for exceptional service—just basic hospitality: taking our order in a reasonable amount of time, checking in occasionally, bringing the water we asked for multiple times, clearing the table, and treating customers with respect. We returned because our first experience upstairs was fantastic. This second visit completely ruined that impression. If you’re coming to watch a game with a group, I sincerely hope you receive the same service we had upstairs during our first visit—not the experience we had downstairs near the entrance. Management seriously needs to address the inconsistency in service because the difference between our two visits was unacceptable.
